Sweets and baked goods are part of the most popular and traditional Catalan food. As previously we showed you some of the typical menus of this time of year, now is the time for desserts. There are few things in the world that surpass the pleasant feeling of tasting a delicious dessert after a pleasant dinner in which you are with family, friends or partner, that’s why we show you some of the typical Christmas sweets in Barcelona.
- Turrones / Nougat
Turrón or Torró is one of the best known Spanish Christmas meals in Barcelona. Nougat is composed of ingredients such as honey, sugar, egg white among others that provide the great variety that exists. It is considered that the first time nougat was made for the first time in Spain dates back to the sixteenth century, when a similar recipe was recorded in a cooking manual at that time. Since then, it has become a traditional Christmas sweet that is enjoyed throughout the Catalan capital during the Christmas season.

- Neules
Its appearance is similar to wafers but its texture and flavor are slightly different. The consistency of the neulas is less dense than that of the wafers, so they get used to breaking more easily. They can be eaten alone or accompanied with sweets such as Catalan cream, sorbets, ice cream, etc., which is why they play such a prominent role at Christmas in Barcelona.

- Xuixo
Consisting of a fine cylindrical dough filled with cream, fried and sugared on the outside. At Christmas time it is very common to find it in pastry shops throughout Barcelona, so an entertaining and interesting plan would be to taste the dessert in different places and discover which is the best prepared.

- Crema Catalana
It is considered as the city version of Crème brûlée and was first found in Catalan recipe books in the fourteenth century. Some differences between Crema Catalana and Crème Brûlée include the cooking method and subsequent consistency; The French have a hint of cream and vanilla, while the Catalan flavor with milk, cinnamon and lemon zest.
