The Barcelona Festival returns in an edition without pandemic restrictions, new scenarios and with Rome as the guest city. Last year’s party did not allow the celebrations to develop normally but for this year different things are already expected, even new locations!!
In addition to being a great civic event, the Barcelona Festival is also a macro-festival made up of various festivals that record the cultural richness of the Catalan capital.
This year, David de las Heras, author of this year’s Mercè poster, unites three generations of Barcelona women in the same image of the festival and Carla Simón, the Barcelona filmmaker, who has marked a before and after in cinema Catalan with two films that have been seen at the most outstanding film festivals and events in the world, will be the herald of this year’s Mercè Festival. The proclamation will begin on September 23 in the Saló de Cent.

La Mercè will recover classic venues such as Bogatell beach, with Estrella Damm’s Mediterràniament stage; Maria Cristina Avenue or Rambla del Raval; Also maintaining the Mercè Música venues from last year: the Teatre Grec, the Jardins Pla i Armengol and the Plaça Major de Nou Barris.
As new stages we will have: for the first time, the Zona Universitària (which will house one of the stages for large-format concerts) the Parc del Aqüeducte, Ciutat Meridiana, and the Ronda de Sant Antoni will become concert zones.
The BAM can be enjoyed at the Moll de la Fusta, with a double stage; in the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm, and in one of its most classic spaces that has been recovered for this edition: La Rambla del Raval.

In this 2022, as Passeig de Gràcia commemorates its 200th anniversary, it will be preserved as a festive space. It will host giants, devils and other groups from popular culture to occupy the street in a grand parade, as well as the popular ‘correfoc’ de la Mercè. The rest of the traditional events will be held on Av. from the Cathedral, Plaça de Sant Jaume and Plaça de la Mercè.

To highlight Rome as the guest city, Plaça de la Mercè will become an open-air cinema with tributes to Ennio Morricone, Federico Fellini and Paolo Sorrentino. In addition, various dance and music activities will be held in the different locations with the presence of guests such as the Italian company Spellbound Contemporary Ballet and Andrea de Siena.
The people of Barcelona will be able to enjoy music, food and drink in a more conscious way in this initiative, which is part of the legacy of Barcelona World Capital of Sustainable Food.
Do not miss this great party, LA FIESTA MAYOR DE BARCELONA, which will be held from September 23 to 26.
