Málaga is a city and municipality in Spain, capital of the homonymous province, located in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is located at the western end of the Mediterranean Sea and in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, about 100 km east of the Strait of Gibraltar. Founded by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, and located on the shores of the Mediterranean, Malaga has a great cultural and architectural heritage concentrated in its historic center, as well as extensive beaches to relax, interesting museums, charming atmosphere and above all, hundreds of restaurants and bars where you can try its most typical dishes such as sardine skewer, the fried fish or the porra antequerana.

  • The Alcazaba of Malaga

Fortification of the Muslim built in the eleventh century, at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro. With a military function, this citadel became one of the constructions that best resisted sieges during the Reconquest thanks to its large crenellated walls, high towers, double doors and archers. Inside is a beautiful complex of palaces, gardens, fountains and courtyards, among which the Puerta de los Arcos, the Plaza de Armas and the Torre del Homenaje, both with incredible views of the city and the bay although its great jewel is the Quarters of Granada, the place where the kings lived, that fall in love with the detailed decoration in Nasrid style of royal rooms.

  • Cathedral of Malaga

Back to the center by Santa María street you will arrive in a few minutes to the Cathedral or the Holy Cathedral Church Basilica of the Incarnation, one of the Renaissance architectural wonders of Andalusia and another of the essential places to see in Malaga. Located in front of the baroque Plaza del Obispo, its construction lasted from 1525 to 1782 and due to financing problems several elements remained unfinished such as the roof, the main sacristy and above all, the second tower, hence it is popularly known as “La Manquita”.
Its impressive baroque façade and Renaissance facades are worth visiting, while inside it houses the High Altar and the Choir Stalls of Pedro de Mena, two authentic masterpieces.

  • Plaza de la Merced

The Plaza de la Merced, former Market Square, where the birthplace of Pablo Picasso is located.
In this house where the painter from Malaga was born and lived until 1884, there is an exhibition about his early life and family objects.
Seated on one of the benches of this square is also a sculpture by Pablo Picasso and in the middle, the Obelisk of Torrijos, which pays homage to General Torrijos and his 48 companions shot on the beach of San Andrés in 1831. A few meters from this square you have the Cervantes Theater, built in 1870 and the main venue of the Malaga Film Festival.

  • Roman Theatre

The Roman Theatre, located at the bottom of the Alcazaba hill, is the main monument preserved from Roman times. Built in the first century by order of Emperor Augustus, this theater has remained hidden for centuries until in 1951, thanks to the construction of a new building, it came to light and became another of the tourist spots of the city. During your free visit you can see much of the original stands, several marble plaques in the orchestra area and pulpit.

  • Larios Street

Marqués de Larios, one of the most elegant and expensive shopping streets in Spain, is the most famous street to see in Malaga. Financed by the powerful Larios family from Malaga and inaugurated in 1891, this wide street flanked by imposing symmetrical buildings and curved corners, is filled every day with tourists and locals who love shopping or who are looking for a table to drink at one of its many bars. This street stands out a lot at Christmas, with its striking lighting and the Malaga Fair, it is a pleasant place to enjoy with the family.

  • Malagueta Beach

The popular Malagueta beach is one of the essential places to see in Malaga when the good weather arrives. This urban beach of more than a kilometer in length is perfect to spend a fun morning with friends and family to have all the services such as restaurants, hammocks, showers, bathrooms, children’s play area and equipment rental for water sports.
