Montjuïc neighborhood is characterized by the fabulous views of the city when you get to the top of the mountain. Tourist attractions include the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, MNAC museum, Plaza España, and Poble Espanyol.

When you arrive to Barcelona, take your luggage and start thinking of how to get to Barcelona centre not spending a fortune. You have many options: 1. to take the Aerobus, a bus that leaves to the city centre every 5 minute, 2. to take a train direct to the Sants station or 3. to take a taxi.

The first option is undoubtedly better, since you get to see the beautiful streets of Barcelona. The things you pass by during this short trip to the city is already a whole tourist experience. You see places that later you will most probably visit during your stay in the city.

What really makes you fall in love with one of the city’s biggest squares, the beautiful Plaza Espana. It is impressive how it is surrounded by so many things you want to know more about, that you will always remember that first time you pass by it. It is one of the most important places in town, literally serving as a gateway to the famous Magic Fountain of Montjuic.

Plaça d’España was designed by Josep Amargos and built on the occasion of the 1929 International Exhibition that took place at the foot of Montjuic mountain. The square leads to the Palau Nacional, that houses the MNAC museum, the National Catalonian Art Museum. Right in the centre of the Plaza a big fountain, that was designed by Josep Maria Jujol.

The two Venetian towers that you pass by when heading to MNAC, were also built as a part of redevelopment of the area before the Universal Exposition. Their function is to mark the entrance to the exhibition district, now known as Fira de Barcelona, where many important trade shows take place, like the Mobile World Congress, each year bringing together people from all over the world.

Montjuïc not only have a huge cultural importance, it is also where you can find one of the most popular shopping malls. Arenas Shopping Centre, built in a old bullring, has a wide range of international shops and places to eat. There is also a cinema and a very cool outside terrace at the rooftop.

The 360-degree views from there are probably the best, especially in the evening. There is an elevator to get there from the downstairs, but you have to pay a few euros. So we really advise you to get there from the outside as it is free of charge. Right next to it, there is a beautiful park to have a nice picnic with friends – the Parc de Joan Miró.

Plaza España is also probably the biggest transport hub of Barcelona, since it’s here where you get the train to many sights located outside the city.
