Unlike other major European capitals, Barcelona is a city that can be easily explored on foot, the distances are not excessive and discovering unexpected corners of the city on the street is one of its main attractions. In the case of tourists visiting the city for a few days is key to manage time so you will probably need to use public transport on several occasions.
- Subway
Barcelona’s metropolitan transport network is made up of traditional means of transport, such as the metro, bus, light rail and streetcar.
The metro is undoubtedly the fastest and most efficient way to move around Barcelona, but it is the one that does not allow you to see and enjoy the city. Barcelona’s metro network is composed of 8 lines, so practically every point of Barcelona will have a metro station less than 10 minutes walking.
The opening hours are:
Monday to Thursday and midweek holidays: from 5.00 a.m. to 12.00 midnight.
Fridays and holiday eves: from 5.00 to 2.00 a.m.
Saturdays: from 5.00 a.m. continuous service all night long.
Sundays: ends at midnight

- Bus
Barcelona has a very complete and efficient urban bus network. It is a means of transport that allows you to get to know Barcelona while you move to a particular place but you have to take into account that the time to get to the destination depends on traffic, so it is not the fastest transport.
The buses are red and white in color and, both on the front and on the side, they show the number of the line. There are regular lines, identified simply with a number, and rapid transit lines, which carry the letter V if they run vertically; H if they run horizontally; or D if diagonal; followed by a number.
When night comes, these lines are replaced by night lines marked with the letter N followed by a number. The routes are completely independent from those of the daytime lines, and except for the N0, all of them pass through Pl. However, the price and the tickets are the same.
- Streetcar
In the whole metropolitan area of Barcelona there are 6 streetcar lines but the most used are T4, T5 and T6. The 3 are limited to cover only the Poblenou area, so if you only move in the center of the city, it is very likely that you will not see any streetcar during your stay.u
The hours are from 05:00 to 24:00 (Sunday – Thursday) and from 05:00 to 2:00 (Friday, Saturday and holidays).

- TMB tickets
TMB tickets and integrated transport cards allow the use of all metropolitan transport such as metro, buses, streetcars, railroads and Rodalies, and even some funiculars, with the same fares as long as you are in the same area.
