  • Halloween / Castanyada (October 31)

The Castanyada is a popular festival of the Catalan Countries, especially in Catalonia. It is celebrated on All Saints’ Day, although lately it is common to move its celebration to the eve of this festivity, the night of October 31. Like the Halloween of the Anglo-Saxon countries, the Catalan chestnut comes from an ancient funeral ritual party. It consists of a meal in which chestnuts, panellets, moniatos and candied fruit are eaten. The typical drink of the Castañada is muscat.
