How is to live San Antoni neighborhood?

Sant Antoni is a small neighbourhood in L’Eixample Esquerra district, which is the left side of it. The neighbourhood has a curious layout of an arrow, so identifying it on Barcelonas map is very easy.  If you look on the map, it is bordered by some of the important roads and avenues of Barcelona such as Parallel, Gran Via, Ronda Sant Antoni and Ronda Sant Pau, making the neighbourhood a very connected zone.

Sant Antoni is located right next to the well-known Raval, that influenced some of the trends and cultural changes in the neighbourhood. Its atmosphere and comfort have made it very popular with locals, bringing together the young and aspiring Catalan creatives. It is also very popular because of its weekly fair of old books and collectibles held every Sunday morning, next to the iconic market, Mercat de Sant Antoni.

Although the neighbourhood is so close to the busy and crowded city centre, it is very relaxed and quiet. This location is perfect if you want to see the city’s many attractions: pretty much everything is about 10-15 minutes walk away.

History of the Sant Antoni

The buildings that you can now see in Sant Antoni mostly date back to the beginning of the 20th century. The most famous building of the city is its big market. One of the important streets of the neighbourhood is the Mistral Avenue, that is beautiful and nice to walk from the centre towards the Plaza Espanya or all the way around.

Streets of Sant Antoni

One thing impossible not to mention is the incredible street art of the city. You can find some of the most famous graffiti of the city here. One of them is the balloon that you can see in the façade on the Carboneria, Cerdà’s first Eixample building. It was one of the most relevant street arts in San Antoni. The rehabilitation of the first building in the Eixample makes that great mural, photographed thousands of times and supposedly protected, disappear.
